A matrix is a two dimensions table containing numbers. In our case, it is a mathematical tool allowing to interact in real time with a light-plot controlled by a Lanbox via DMX. It allows to control lights in a different way than programming cues (light atmospheres), and to combine within one project different approaches of controlling lights. This principle can be applied to control sound (we already tested the control of volumes of sound outputs via the matrix) and potentially to the control of video, motors, etc.

The matrix allows for instance to treat light independantly from a sequence of pre-determined light atmosphere, by converting, filtering and mixing on the fly dataflows considered globally, coming from sources such as a video clip, a camera, stills, etc.

It aims at re-introducing organicity in light-control, and proposes for instance a set of tools that allow to artificially re-create the perception of behaviours and movements observed in nature (clouds in the sky, a lighter's flame...).
